The brand-new album by David Gilmour, Luck and Strange" was recorded over five months in Brighton and London and is Gilmour's first album of new material in nine years. The record was produced by David and Charlie Andrew, best known for his work with alt-J and Marika Hackman, with lyrics mostly written by Polly Samson, Gilmour's co-writer for the past thirty years. The album features eight new tracks along with a beautiful reworking of The Montgolfier Brothers' Between Two Points", which sees Romany Gilmour, who performs backing vocals across the album, on vocals and harp.
Musicians contributing to the record include Guy Pratt & Tom Herbert on bass, Adam Betts, Steve Gadd and Steve DiStanislao on drums, Rob Gentry & Roger Eno on keyboards and the string and choral arrangements are by Will Gardner. The title track also features the late Pink Floyd keyboard player Richard Wright, recorded in 2007 during a "Barn Jam" at David's house.
The album's cover image, photographed and designed by renowned artist Anton Corbijn, is inspired by lyrics written by Charlie Gilmour for the album's final song "Scattered".
This limited-edition box set includes 2xLPs on 180g black vinyl, 1 Blu-ray disc, and a 68-page hardback book of exclusive photographs taken by Polly Samson during the recording of the album.

Steve COctober 25, 2024The "Luck and Strange" box set is top-notch! I have to start with the presentation. From the moment the box is opened, it's all about presentation. A ribbon awaits, like a pull-tab, but it does so much more. Lift it and you've unlocked a treasure. Layer one, the album box. Layer two, the sheet card with a blu-ray tucked in it. Layer three, the picture book. Each had its own verse to play and all of them created a masterpiece. Another amazing accomplishment! David Gilmore's talent continues to stand the test of time. The blend of his unmistakable guitar sound, his vocals, the harmonies, and the lyrics put this album on the "must play often" list. This is a must-purchase for any Gilmore fan!

GJCOctober 18, 2024This beautiful Box Set "Luck and Strange" is absolutely wonderful! I am so happy to own it. It will have a special place in my heart & home. David Gilmore is unbelievably talented. His music is mesmerizing. I enjoy it so much. The lyrics are really unlike any other. The book included in this set is a treasure. Great photos! I love the photo of David standing with his beloved guitar in front of him. The Albums are great and will be played over & over. I have the CD as well. If you don't own this music, I advise you to get it right away. It makes my life so happy. David has a smile that warms your heart. I hope there will be a DVD soon from his Tours! Thank you!

David seems top like opening albums with a short instrumental piece and Black Cat sets the mood for the album perfectly. Mr. Gilmour has said that he thinks this is his best work since DSOTM, and I have to say, I don't think I can disagree with him. The album features a stellar lineup of musicians, wonderfully produced and recorded. The Deluxe 2 album boxed set is beautifully packaged, with a lovely book of photographs by Polly Sampson.

Musically and lyrically brilliant, along with the quality of the recordings, one is transported to what feels like an astral plane, where the sum of these parts create pure bliss... The layers of sound and voice are like individual characters in a story - and it all comes together in an exceptional and impactful "project." On top of that, the Deluxe 2-LP Box Set is one of the finest and well appointed packaging I've seen. Everything is so professionally done. You can tell there was a tremendous amount of thought in how this special project would be delivered/received. The photo book is absolutely magnificent, capturing the vibrations and artistry of what it was like to "be in the room" while recording the record. Obviously, I freaking love it!! Bravo!
